Gomorrah (2008) is an Italian movie making a splash at film festivals. The plot concerns Italy's modern day crime families.
One of the promo pics making the rounds is below.
(Please click on all pictures to see if a larger image is available.)
I can see that the guy on the left side of the frame, the one wearing the red and white swim trunks, is holding an AK. But what is that contraption the guy with the blue swim trunks is firing?
That thick barrel on the gun reminds me of a De Lisle Carbine.
Is it? A De Lisle Carbine, I mean? Can't say, really. Probably isn't.
UPDATE
There have been a few suggestions about the mystery gun. I thought I'd explore them.
joefm sent an Email, suggesting a folding stock Benelli shotgun. Below is a picture of their Super 90 tactical shotgun with a folding stock.
Pretty cool looking, and it is a pretty close match.
But then I looked at the original picture, and the thing that stumped me was that odd streamlined plate attached in front of the trigger guard. I don't see that on the Benelli.
Ctone of Legion's Fate fame thinks that it is a modern non-suppressed reproduction of the De Lisle carbine, like one offered by Special Interest Arms.
Again, I'm not too sure about that. The De Lisle feds from a magazine just in front of the trigger guard, but that streamlined plate on the Mystery Gun I mentioned above sure doesn't look right.
sahowell was kind enough to leave a comment, their first on this blog. (I thank you kindly!) They suggest a Schermuly 38mm baton gun, which is an anti-riot gun the British have used in the past.
Hmm. Sure looks like a pretty exact match to me. It even has that puzzling plate in front of the trigger guard.
Oddly enough, it seems that one was used as a prop in The Empire Strikes Back (1980). Other than that, I'm having trouble finding references to the device online. It is mentioned in passing a few times, and some defunct Chinese defense websites were interested in the gun. Other than that, there is a deafening silence.
Oh, well. It looks like there are a few floating around in some Italian movie prop warehouses, otherwise it would have never been used in this flick.

Looks like one to me. Good catch! It's a SMLE that fires .45 ACP. - http://www.surplusrifle.com/shooting/delisle/index.asp

Hello there
This is the first time I've posted here. The mystery gun looks more like a Schermuly 38mm baton round gun with a skeletonised stock, used by the British military in Ireland.
