Wooden Boomsticks

Yet another fascinating tidbit from Teh Intertubes. It seems that there is a retired gunsmith from Australia who fashions replicas of historic handguns from wood.

"The many pieces exactly duplicate the original gun parts made in metal. Even the springs are wood, yet the gun functions just like the real one...with the exception of actually firing bullets."

I can just see the elves of Lothlorien using gear like that against the hordes of Mordor. But if the elves had such weaponry available, then the trilogy wouldn't have been so freakin' long.

Fascinating stuff, and the replicas are simply works if art. Click on the pis above for a much larger image, and be sure to check out the website.

He'd have to carefully pick the guns he duplicates to make sure they don't use any coil springs!

Very nice indeed.
It reminds me that around 20-30 years ago there was a Japanese company called "LS" who used to manufacture models of handguns. These looked similar to the modern plastic airsoft guns but were meant to mimic the mechanism of the gun but entirely in plastic. As such they were a very interesting means for boys to learn how guns worked but they were also rather fragile.
I still have a "broomhandle" Mauser of theirs in good condition, plus a Colt Python that more-or-less works.
