A Mistake, or an Outright Lie?

I was just watching Fox News. The male reporter (don't ask me his name 'cause I don't know) started a spiel about a fresh news item.

It seems that a 20 year old loser was picked up by the cops when he threatened a "Virginia Tech style massacre." The anchor described the small arsenal that was found.

"He had assault rifles with armor piercing bullets....that could go through a tank!"

The emphasis wasn't added by me for effect. He actually raised his voice and put a great deal of emotion into his delivery while talking about the tank defeating small arms ammunition.

So why does any country in the world invest all that money in tanks, when an AK-47 can shoot right through it?

A better question to ask is why are these reporters so indescribably stupid?

Nomen Nescio:

I was just watching Fox News

that was your first mistake, right there...

Bullets that can go through a tank huh? Can we say PSH? *shakes head* I guess the military has been wasting it's time with missiles and that big 120mm smoothbore cannon.

Brass:

It could go through a fish tank, maybe even a acetylene tank. But there is absolutely no efin' way it's going through even an old M60 or T-52.

Bob Hawkins:

Because if they weren't indescribably stupid they wouldn't be reporters? Is this a trick question?

Tom Stone:

It's the hair spray to some extent, full of formaldehyde and other brain cell destroying chemicals.Start with an incredibly vain and self centered pretty boy/girl who isn't real bright, add chemicals and a steady diet of BS for a decade, deselect for ethics and self respect throughout the educational and employment process and you end up with something considerably less than the average collie.

From the picture it looks as though they were referring to the belt of .50 BMG, although those rounds cannot be fired through a tank unless it's been sitting around in the humid jungles of Guadalcanal for the last 60+ years.

Either way, he didn't have a M2 BMG to shoot those rounds, and it's not like someone can take out a plane flying at 30,000 feet at 550 mph with the .50.

What gets to me is that the media didn't push the story as a guy who may have had a few screws loose, they pushed it as a guy who has guns so he must be crazy. I don't suppose they would have run him up the flagpole if he kept kerosene and fertilizer in his house.
