Chris is a buddy of mine, a member of my gaming group. He was they guy who proved that crispy bacon goes really well on ice cream.
Dan From Madison has found a YouTube video where a reporter goes to a small diner in a tiny Texas town to try their cuisine. Not only do they have two pound steaks on the menu, but they also have chicken fried bacon strips as a side!
If I had the money, I'd fly both Chris and myself down there right now just so I could watch the expression on Chris' face as he slipped into a food coma, strips of battered bacon bulging from his chipmunk-distended cheeks.
Of course, the big problem would be getting him to leave!
But hold on there, pardner! Is this place still in business? It doesn't look that way. I tried to find mention of it, and all I could come up with was some place called the Czech-Tex BBQ, Steakhouse, and Bakery. I doubt that a place as small as Snook, TX could support two such establishments.
Fried bacon, alas, is not on the menu.

Ha, your Google-fu is weak. Here is a Yahoo page with reviews and a map, so you don't get lost in the bustling metropolis of Snook. According to the reviews I've seen the place is still open, at least as of late Sept.
But even if Sodolak goes to the Great Greasy Spoon in the Sky all is not lost, because here is a post that has an actual recipe. I think you're pretty much obligated to whip up a batch of this for your next gaming meet.

I bow before the master.

I think I might be able to convince them to wait until after the holidays, but you are right that they will insist on trying this gastronomic delight.

I'm proud to be your field reporter for this one. Snook is about a 15 minute drive for me. Yes, it supports both establishments. I've tried the bacon at Sodolak's but not Czech-Tex. He's the catch. It's battered and deep fried--but not in bacon grease. So ironically, it doesn't retain much bacon flavor. It tastes like whatever oil they use to deep fry it.

I'll bet Preston lives between Snook and North Zulch, aka Bryan/College Station, home to the Texas Aggies.
The story I heard was that Sodolak was the original cook at "The Country Inn" in Somerville. It is a competing steak joint. The small sirloin there was 1.5-1.75 pounds. Large was 3-3.5 pounds. Steak for Two was the large sirloin with two salads and two sides of fries for about $20. I left that area about four years ago. It might be up to $25 by now.
Only went to Sodolak's once, and that was the old Sodolak's which was in a refurbished Dairy Queen building. They didn't have the CF bacon back then. What I remember most is that the onion rings were a very vivid yellow-orange.
The bakery next door to the Czech-Tex Steakhouse had incredible Kolaches. They were made by grandmas who'd been making them for decades. Soft buttery yeasty dough with fresh fruit preserves in the middle....
I sure miss Texas....
