Yet More Proof That I'm a Geek

Wanted was a limited run comic book with an interesting premise. A total loser with a crappy life, crappy job, and crappy romantic prospects is approached by a beautiful woman and told an amazing secret.

It seems that super heroes once existed, but they were defeated decades ago by super villains. Those with the power now pull the strings from the shadows, altering memories so the sheep they rule are convinced that people with extraordinary abilities only exist in comic book fantasies. And the reason why the schlub is told all this is because his long lost father was one of the secret masters of the world, and he has to decide if he wants to be trained to take up his legacy as the deadliest assassin that has ever lived.

Interesting premise, and the writing was certainly depraved. We are talking about super villains, after all, so there was enough murder and gory killings to satisfy those with en eye towards such things. Definitely a comic meant for adults.

I see that they are adapting the comic into a film, but I see by the trailer that they had to make some changes to the basic storyline.

Instead of being a murdering super villain, the protagonist is instead recruited to become an agent of the original Greek fates, the three sisters who weave the tapestry of life. He is a good guy now, killing bad guys who would go against their fate.

That is a pity, since I was rather interested to see how they could make a real scumbag into a sympathetic character. But I'll still go to see it for the bullet ballet.
