Rant it Up

A few years ago, one of my coworkers started on a rant about how many businesses cater to their immigrant customers by printing instructions in Spanish. He thought it was a sign that the United States was all too ready to cater to blatant illegal behavior instead of punishing it.

I always thought that he was painting with too wide a brush. Businesses aren't law enforcement agencies, and there is nothing illegal nor immoral about looking to provide an extra service that might attract customers.

(This isn't to say that I want to turn my back on the vast numbers of illegal immigrants currently in this country. Not only does it show an alarming vulnerability so far as basic security is concerned, but it also is a slap at our justice system. If we have a law that says entering and living in the United States without permission is illegal, then we should either enforce the law or change it.)

Fuz has posted a rather lengthy rant. (His permalinks has always been sort of screwy, so look for the post entitled "BofA BS".) He discusses the recent flap over a move by the Bank of America, which recently introduced a credit card specifically for illegal aliens.

My take on this whole situation is that there is going to be a political backlash against this some day in the not-too-distant future.
